No-Till Field Day Planned
If you would like to learn about No-Till
farming please mark your calendar for Wednesday, July 9th at 9:00AM.
The Natural Resources Conservation Service, Grant County Conservation District
and Oklahoma State University would like to invite area farmers to a
No-Till Field Day and free lunch in Wakita.
The tour will begin at Rodney and Pat Hern’s farm west of
Wakita. Four sites will be visited
during the morning session. The sites
will include conventional and no-till systems involving wheat, corn, milo, and
sesame production. NRCS soil scientists Steve Alspach and Greg Scott will
discuss soil health regarding no-till vs. conventional and provide hands-on
training. Test pits will be dug at the sites to demonstrate and discuss soil
quality. A rainfall simulator will be used thereby demonstrating the numerous
water quality benefits derived from a no-till system. This is a hands-on event
and producers will be there for questions and answers. We would like to make
the event as interactive as possible. No-till producers in attendance to answer
questions are Mr. Rodney Hern, Mr. Randy Lanie and Mr. Dan Wilson.
The complimentary lunch will be provided
at the Bi-Centennial Building in Wakita immediately following the
field visits. Following lunch, indoor
presentations will be made by OSU professors Dr. Randy Taylor, Dr. Chad Godsy,
OSU Ext. Agronomist Roger Gribble and OSU Ag Economist J.C. Hobbs. A producer panel discussion will also be held
in the afternoon. RSVP is requested for meal planning, but not required. To RSVP or
for driving directions please call the Grant County OSU Extension office at
580.395.2134 or the Grant County Conservation District at 580.395.2324 ext.3 Sponsors for this event are USDA-NRCS, Grant County Conservation District, Oklahoma State University and Devery Implement
Company.
