Here’s our coverage from the 2008 Oklahoma Youth Expo, brought to you in part by McDonalds and the Franchise Owners across the state who operate under the Golden Arches across the state!!!

McDonalds OYE02

March 21- With the OYE now finished for 2007, we talk with Jeramy Rich, Executive Director of the Expo- who reports that “right at $800,000” in auction proceeds and add-ons resulted from the Premium Auction held on Thursday afternoon/evening. With 195 animals offered to the bidders, an average of just over $4100 was achieved on the night- truly a remarkable figure! We have our conversation with Jeramy linked here- so click and listen about the 2008 show- and some first thoughts on the 2009 show.

March 20 9PM- The OYE is officially over as the Premium sale has been concluded. We have an audio review of the evening if you click here. Here’s the rundown of the “Grands” and the “Reserves”-
At the front end- the Grand Champion Steer was close
to an all time record as a "combine" of companies and
ranches bought the Steer by the name of "Ozzie" from
Morgan Wynn of McAlester who was showing her third
steer ever- that Crossbred steer commanded
$52,000! Among the buyers who purchased the top
steer of the World's Largest Junior Livestock Show
were Express Ranches, Bank of Western Oklahoma,
First Capital, Senator LeBlanc and Limestone Ranch.

The Reserve Grand Steer commanded $25,000-
purchased by the State Fair of Oklahoma and
Dorchester Capital- the second best steer in the show
was exhibited by Morgan Swink of the Guthrie FFA.

The Grand Champion Barrow was shown by
Stephanie Payne of Yukon FFA- and was bought for a
final price of $25,000 by a combo of the Oklahoma
Farm Bureau and Blue and Gold Sausage. The
Reserve Grand Barrow was shown by Carli Newby of
Lindsay 4-H- and she got a payday of $17,000 from a
combo set of buyers- the Daily Oklahoman and the
Choctaw tribe.

The Grand Champion Market Lamb got a final bid of
$23,000- which was the same price as last year's top
Lamb- and the purchaser was the same- Touchstone
Electric. The Lamb was owned by Jade Terbush of the
Navajo FFA. The Reserve Lamb came in at $17,000
with the Choctaws and Chesapeake Energy teaming
up to buy the number two Lamb shown by Heather
Glass of Elgin FFA.

The Grand Champion Goat was shown by Tyler Boles- and Tyler received $10,000 for his animal as the top Meat Goat of the show- the group buying his lamb included Oklahoma Farm Credit, Oklahoma Farm Bureau, The Youth Meat and Goat Producers Group and the Oklahoma Youth Expo. The Reserve Champion Goat was shown here in 2008 by Stasha Harp of Kansas FFA- she received $5,000 for her efforts with her Goat being bought by the Oklahoma Meat Goat Association and the OYE.
