March 21- With the OYE now finished for 2007, we talk with Jeramy Rich, Executive Director of the Expo- who reports that “right at $800,000” in auction proceeds and add-ons resulted from the Premium Auction held on Thursday afternoon/evening. With 195 animals offered to the bidders, an average of just over $4100 was achieved on the night- truly a remarkable figure! March 20 9PM- The OYE is officially over as the Premium sale has been concluded. We have an audio review of the evening if you click here. Here’s the rundown of the “Grands” and the “Reserves”- At the front end- the Grand Champion Steer was close to an all time record as a "combine" of companies and ranches bought the Steer by the name of "Ozzie" from Morgan Wynn of McAlester who was showing her third steer ever- that Crossbred steer commanded $52,000! Among the buyers who purchased the top steer of the World's Largest Junior Livestock Show were Express Ranches, Bank of Western Oklahoma, First Capital, Senator LeBlanc and Limestone Ranch.
The Reserve Grand Steer commanded $25,000- purchased by the State Fair of Oklahoma and Dorchester Capital- the second best steer in the show was exhibited by Morgan Swink of the Guthrie FFA.
The Grand Champion Barrow was shown by Stephanie Payne of Yukon FFA- and was bought for a final price of $25,000 by a combo of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau and Blue and Gold Sausage. The Reserve Grand Barrow was shown by Carli Newby of Lindsay 4-H- and she got a payday of $17,000 from a combo set of buyers- the Daily Oklahoman and the Choctaw tribe.
The Grand Champion Market Lamb got a final bid of $23,000- which was the same price as last year's top Lamb- and the purchaser was the same- Touchstone Electric. The Lamb was owned by Jade Terbush of the Navajo FFA. The Reserve Lamb came in at $17,000 with the Choctaws and Chesapeake Energy teaming up to buy the number two Lamb shown by Heather Glass of Elgin FFA.
The Grand Champion Goat was shown by Tyler Boles- and Tyler received $10,000 for his animal as the top Meat Goat of the show- the group buying his lamb included Oklahoma Farm Credit, Oklahoma Farm Bureau, The Youth Meat and Goat Producers Group and the Oklahoma Youth Expo. The Reserve Champion Goat was shown here in 2008 by Stasha Harp of Kansas FFA- she received $5,000 for her efforts with her Goat being bought by the Oklahoma Meat Goat Association and the OYE.

One of the sixteen received a $5000 scholarship given in honor of the late Justin Whitefield, former Executive Director of the OYE- that student was Chloe Huitt of Elgin FFA
The sixteenth of the sixteen students that are a part of the 2008 Ag All Staters received a $5000 scholarship from the Sirloin Club of Oklahoma in honor of Bobbie Steenbergen- that final member of the Ag All State Team is Tara Maye of Haworth, Oklahoma.

March 18- We have more results from the Barrow and Lamb shows- as well as the Steer Show that is now underway. We also want to congratulate Rep. Jerry Shoemake of Morris for winning the Robert Kerr Trophy as the outstanding Lawmaker turned Livestock Showman at this year’s Oklahoma Youth Expo. We talked duringt he event with State Rep. Dale Dewitt, click and listen to his explanation about how this is a win-win for the Lawmakers and their young constituents as they come together. And we also talked with Lt. Governor Jari Askins, who was on hand as well- and calls it a great educational opportunity for the lawmakers.

March 17- One of the 2008 Honorees is an OSU Extension Specialist that has done an incredible job in working with the youth of our state for the past couple of decades- Jerry Fitch is the state sheep specialist and has served as the Sheep Show Superintendent for many years- he has also worked with the Oklahoma Ag Leadership Encounter that provides leadership development opportunities for OSU students through the Oklahoma Youth Expo.
