Most cattle producers do an excellent job of caring for their animals- but the challenge is to get that story out and heard by an urban audience. We discuss this challenge on today's Beef Buzz with Dr. Bob Smith as we conclude a three part series on Animal Care Standards that have been embraced by the US Beef Cattle Industry.
In Part One- we took a trip down memory lane and reflected back ten years ago when the National BQA Guidelines and the National Manual for all cattle producers (beef and dairy) was being developed. Dr. Smith talked with us about how this standards have evolved and have been improved in recent years. Click here for Part One of our series of Beef Buzz shows with Dr. Bob Smith.
In Part Two- we consider some of the key things that the cattle producer back on the ranch needs to pay attention to. Dr. Smith says that cattle producers are doing a good job in treating their animals right. Dr. Smith points to three areas where cattle producers need to invest time and resources- proper nutrition, health issues- including weaning management and then the overall issue of cattle handling. Click here for our Part Two in this series of Beef Buzz shows on Animal Well Being.
That brings us to today's Beef Buzz- Part Three, which is the conclusion of our conversation with Dr. Bob Smith of Stillwater. Dr. Smith says that everyone in the Beef Industry should work to become an ambassador- and that one way to accomplish that is to go through the Masters in Beef Advocacy Program. To learn more about how you can earn this MBA and speak up for the beef industry, click here for the website where you can get info on the MBA program and register to go through the online coursework.
The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the state on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
