The 2010 Edition of the Range Roundup Ready to Ride Into the State Fair Arena August 27-28

The OCA Range Round Up has been called a lot of things throughout the years, most notably it has been called “The Real Deal.” It is called the “Real Deal” because this event features 12 historic Oklahoma ranch teams in head to head competition for bruises and bragging rights. We talk about this year's event with Steve McKinley of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association on today's Beef Buzz.
In order to maintain the integrity of the event, the invited ranches must be headquartered in Oklahoma. The contestants and their alternates must be full time ranch employees of the ranch they are representing, they must have been employed by that ranch for a minimum of six months and they are required to use their own horses.
The OCA Range Round-Up is comprised of six events depicting day-to-day ranching jobs. These events include such things as the Saddle Bronc Riding, Cattle Doctoring, Wild Cow Milking, Team Branding, Team Penning, and the Wild Horse Race.
The OCA Range Round-Up is sanctioned by the Working Ranch Cowboys Association and the Champion team at the OCA event represents Oklahoma at the world competition each year.
In 2009, Adcock’s Lazy 71 Ranch and the Whitmire Ranch both of Collinsville, Okla., joined forces to win the Championship title at the 25th Anniversary OCA Range Round-Up. These cowboys secured their winning position by placing in the top three in four events including: Saddle Bronc Riding, Wild Cow Milking, Team Sorting and the Wild Horse Race. Team members included; Burr Gagan, Rebecca Gagan, E.J. Gagan, T.J. Mills, Doug Potter and Cinco Mullendore.
