Cattlemen's Beef Board Responds to NCBA Claims of CBB CEO Misconduct

Fri, 10 Jun 2011 6:23:05 CDT

Cattlemen's Beef Board Responds to NCBA Claims of CBB CEO Misconduct The Executive Committee of the Cattlemen's Beef Board has agreed with their principle contractor, the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, that some specific actions by the Chief Executive Officer Tom Ramey were improper and have reprimanded him and put him on an "employment probation" for a period of six months.

The allegation made by NCBA to the Beef Board was similar to complaints aired by a Beef Board member in a closed door meeting back in February of this year in Denver during the Cattle Industry Convention. The allegation was that Ramey "repeatedly listened to NCBA organized conference calls with state beef council executives." The NCBA offered substantiation to the CBB Executive Committee and the Committee agreed this practice occured and it was improper. The response from the CBB attorney to NCBA adds that " Mr. Ramey has assured the CBB Executive Committee that he recognizes that his actions were improper and a breach of ethical standards and has promised to never do it again."

The attorney also listed three other allegations that NCBA made against Ramey, the previous Chairman of the CBB Dan Dierschke and current Chairman Tom Jones- indicated the board had reviewed those charges and concluded they were not valid.

The report to current NCBA President Bill Donald concluded that "the CBB Executive Committee has reaffirmed its support of Mr. Ramey as CEO of the Beef Board and suggests that now is the time for the Beef Board and the rest of the industry to move forward."

Working with fellow reporter Stewart Doan of Agri-Pulse, we have comments from current Chairman of the CBB, Tom Jones of Arkansas, on this issue for today's Beef Buzz.
