Lower Placements of Cattle Into Feedlots Expected in USDA Report on Friday
Thu, 20 Dec 2012 04:43:18 CST
The final Cattle on Feed report for 2012 is expected to show more of the same compared to the last several cattle in feedlot counts- fewer numbers in the major feedlots compared to one year ago and fewer cattle being placed into feedlots compared to one year ago.
Dow Jones has polled analysts about the upcoming report- and the average pre report guess for the number of cattle on feed is 93.4% of a year ago- while placements are expected to come in well below last November- off 8.8% from 2011. Marketings are predicted to have remained largely unchanged from 2011.
If the placement number comes in below 2011 levels, that would extend the string of lower placements to six consecutive months.
Today's Beef Buzz examines what the report may say and what it may mean with Erica Rosa Sanko of the Livestock Market Information Center in Denver. Sanko talked about the upcoming Cattle on Feed report earlier this week with Eric Atkinson on the extension program Agriculture Today.
