To Reach Out to Millennials- Visual is the Language of Information Today

Wed, 03 Jan 2018 09:44:00 CST

To Reach Out to Millennials- Visual is the Language of Information Today Jason Dorsey is one of the leading experts on both Millennials (or Generation Y) and Generation Z. These two generations encompass adults and teens under the age of 40- with Millennials the focus of marketing efforts that have been developed by the Beef Checkoff in recent years. Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays sat down recently with Dorsey and talked with him about these generations and how they approach buying and other lifestyle decisions. Today's Beef Buzz wraps up that conversation between Hays and Dorsey.

Dorsey says that when it comes to both generations- far and away the best way to provide them information is via video. Dorsey tells Hays that "visual is the language of information today" and that for Millennials and Gen Z "video is critically important- they're going to watch a video before they read something- and then images and then bullet points."

For the Beef Industry- the good news is that video has been a key part of reaching today's younger consumers- especially the many "how to" video recipes that have housed on the Beef It's What's for Dinner website.

Hays and Dorsey also talked about how the ag industry needs to communicate with Millennials in getting the modern ag production story to those who have no family ties back to the farm or ranch. Dorsey says that "the most important thing that the Ag industry can do to connect and build trust with Millennials is to humanize what farmers and ranchers are doing."
