NCBA Lobbyist Colin Woodall Sees Action in the Lame Duck on the 2018 Farm Bill

Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays caught up with Senior Vice President for Government Affairs for the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, Colin Woodall, in Kansas City at the National Association of Farm Boradcasting's annual meeting- and talked a variety of issues with the veteran lobbyist who represents cattle producers inside the Waashington beltway.
Woodall offered his insights on the midterm elections, which saw the GOP pick up seats in the US Senate while the Democrats have gained control of the US House of Represenatives for the second half of the first term of the Trump Presidency.
Woodall believes those results from Tuesday night will frame the likely outcome of any lame duck work on the 2018 Farm Bill- and he remains hopeful that the Big Four Negotiators will be able to come together and pull off a final deal for Congress to vote on before Christmas.
Woodall told Hays that he believes Democrat Collin Peterson when he says that he wants the conclusion of the farm bill process this year- before he likely becomes the Chairman once again of the House Ag Committee. Woodall says that if no farm bill deal is finalized- it could mean that Peterson will have to use much of the next two years as Chairman to pull together a revised version of farm policy- while he could move on if the bill is completed and signed into law with a fresh "to do" list in 2019, which will likely be oversight of the Trump Administration's implementation of Farm Policy and more.
Woodall says for the beef producers of this country- they especially want to see the bill completed to get the FMD Vaccine Bank authorization and funding on the books, as well as to get Market Promotion authorization renewed.
