Left's Anti-Ag Agenda Exposed as Dems Fail to Uphold Green New Deal in Embarrassing Defeat

Yesterday, the US Senate voted on a resolution that would have moved forward consideration of the Green New Deal authored by U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. The chamber's Republicans were joined by two dissenting Democrats in voting NO on the bill, while the rest of Senate Democrats voted PRESENT - effectively sealing the Green New Deal's fate, according to Scott Yager, chief environmental counsel for the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, who insists is a good thing for beef producers and production agriculture.
"To see it fail on the Senate floor was a good thing for us because it achieves a policy goal that our members put forth for us to achieve. I think this is a situation that's a very political one in the decision of Democrats to vote 'present' on the bill," he said. "But at the end of the day, they voted effectively against their own Green New Deal."
Yager remarked on a what a strange situation it really was, as prior to the vote, several Democratic senators joined a rally on the Senate Lawn to vocally support the legislation - some quoted saying that climate change "-needs to be treated like the existential threat it is-" and "Now is the time. Action is urgent." Yet, when it came time to vote, none of them demonstrated those sentiments with a vote of confidence. As interesting as that may be - Yager says the threat this movement poses is far from over and insists new legislation will continue to pop up in various forms as time goes by. What was most telling about this entire ordeal from an agricultural perspective though, according to Yager, is that the rally in support of the bill was attended by anti-agriculture activists.
"That's important to note, because often times they try to hide what the agenda is," Yager pointed out. "It was good to see it up front and personal and keep that reminder going that people who are behind this Green New Deal do not have the best interests of farmers and ranchers in mind. They want to change everything you're doing on a daily basis to achieve climate change reductions. We expect more of these misguided climate change policies will come forward and when that happens - we'll keep telling our story."
