OYE's Tyler Norvell Says They Are in Final Stages of Preperation For The Cattlemen's Congress in January
Wed, 09 Dec 2020 10:40:42 CST
A new cattle show called the Cattlemenís Congress is scheduled for Jan. 2-17 in Oklahoma City.
Ron Hays Beef Buzzes With Tyler Norvell
The show replaces the traditional Denver Livestock Show which had to cancel due to the pandemic.
Tyler Norvell, executive of the Oklahoma Youth Expo, is on the board of directors for the new show and during a recent interview with Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays, said planning for the new show has been intense.
Weíre drinking from a firehouse trying to get ready for this thing, Norvell said.
Well over a dozen different breeds will be represented as they are all having their national shows here, Norvell said.
Itís fun for our OYE staff working with all these different people, he said.
This is a huge part of their livelihood and commerce for 2021 and making sure they are able to market their livestock is at the forefront for us, Norvell said.
All the breeds are having a junior and open show and sale for seed stock, he said.
There are several cattle breed sales going on around the area at National Stockyards, Remington Park and Cowboy Hall of Fame in conjunction with Cattlemenís Congress.
Norvell praised state and local officials in supporting the new show.
The Governor and Ag Sec. Blayne Arthur have always been very supportive, he said.
Because this is a first-time event for the area and for Norvell, there was a steep learning curve.
The dog has finally caught the truck and now what do I do, Norvell stated.
They hired Erin Dorsey, who has helped run the Denver show in past years, to help with the Cattlemenís Congress.
The new show comes just seven weeks before the Oklahoma Youth Expo but Norvell has assured everyone they can handle the extra workload.
Whatís going to be different here from OYE is that the individual breeds run their own shows and we donít have to do that, and it alleviates a lot of pressure off us, Norvell said.
