Oklahoma Stocker Operator Jim Hollenbeck Says Performance Beef Helping Him Succeed

For the last two years, Hollenbeck Cattle Co., run by Jim Hollenbeck and his wife, have been using Performance Beef to manage their stocker operation in Jay, Okla. Today, Hollenbeck continues the conversation with Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Senior Farm and Ranch Director Ron Hays about Performance Beef, a cattle management software is an easy-to-use technology to simplify feeding, performance and health data records for cattle producers.
"It makes our life simpler and easier," Hollenbeck said. "It is really accurate in all the information that it gathers. It is easy for the guys who work for us to input the information into the system because it (connects via) Bluetooth to your (device)."
Two years ago, the Hollenbecks were looking to improve recordkeeping on the ranch when they saw the Performance Beef booth at the National Cattlemen's Beef Association convention and trade show. After deciding to try the software, he said he and his wife are glad that they did.
He admits that he was hesitant because of the thought of implementing it sounded complicated.
"It probably sounds more complicated than it is," Hollenbeck said. "It takes a little while to be able to learn the system, but it is not as complicated as I was afraid as it would be."
He said it was not complicated to integrate the software within his operation and today, utilizing it is second nature.
"We have scales on our feed trucks, so basically we had to figure out a way to (send) information from our scale (via Bluetooth) to our (devices)," Hollenbeck said. "That was pretty well all (the software) needed as far as being able to capture all of our data."
Hollenbeck said he hopes Performance Beef helps him and his wife be better managers by looking at what we have done in the past and helping predict the future.
