2022 Cattlemen's Congress: It is Going to Be Huge!
Wed, 22 Dec 2021 11:44:10 CST
The second-ever Cattlemen's Congress is only days away! After a wildly successful inaugural show last winter, Tyler Norvell, a member of the Board of Directors for Cattlemen's Congress, and the rest of the board are excited to welcome everyone back to the 2022 Cattlemen's Congress, Jan. 1 - 16, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
"It is here," Norvell said. "Jarold Callahan mentioned yesterday that we do not get much of a Christmas anymore. I said, 'we made that decision when we had this show last year.'"
Norvell is exactly where he wants to be. He told Ron Hays, senior broadcaster for the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network, that if he had been told this time last year that the show would become such a hit, he would not have believed it.
"We are looking forward to growing it," Norvell said. "We have more than 9,000 entries - same as last year. For the trade show there is a waiting list and for the herd sire area there is a waiting list. The buzz is incredible."
Last year, the show broke records by bringing in nearly 10,000 head of cattle, more than 2,700 exhibitors and thousands of producers to Oklahoma City. In turn, it created record-breaking National Sales that first year.
Despite this being just the second year of the show, it already has some improvements, according to Norvell.
"We have more show pen cattle this year," Norvell said. "We have increased the breeds; we have added four or five breeds. What we have done, that no other show in the country is doing, had the first supreme open bull and open heifer shows. This year, we are adding an American supreme for the Brahmans, Brangus and several other breeds."
Norvell said folks are excited about this because showing such different breeds against each other is like comparing apples to oranges. Additionally, there are a few more sales set to take place this year.
"We are having an American breed sale, the steer sale, plus all the other sales we had," Norvell said. "We could not be more excited about the opportunities for commercial cattlemen to come and buy genetics."
What makes the Cattlemen's Congress so successful is that it is simply a cattle show put on by cattlemen and cattlewomen for cattlemen and cattlewomen, Norvell said.
"We take pride in that," Norvell said. "We know their needs and we try to be customer friendly."
