Cattlemen's Congress Leadership Planning to Build on Success of 2022 in January 2023 With Their Third Congress
Wed, 09 Mar 2022 07:20:28 CST
Plans are already underway for the third Cattlemen's Congress as cattle industry leaders in Oklahoma hope to build on the success of the first two years. Oklahoma Farm Report's Ron Hays sat down a few weeks after the 2022 show and talked with the Chairman of the Cattlemen's Congress Board, Jarold Calahan with Express Ranches.
Year two saw the amount of sales hosted and the revenue generated climbed to new heights this year. 13 sales were hosted at the OKC Fairgrounds, and 9 were held off-site during the 2022 Cattlemen's Congress, resulting in 22 total sales generating more than $10 million during the 16 day show period.
Additionally, the 2022 show had over 9,000 head of cattle entered with more breeds represented than ever before, with the amount of cattle shown this year increasing by more than 500 head when compared to 2021.
Callahan says "These numbers show that this really is the meeting place for cattlemen and women across the world. The positive impact proves to be undeniable, and we are humbled to host so many here in the heart of cattle country."
With exhibitors from 44 states and Canadian provinces, as well as international guests from across the world, the amount of visitors continues to grow and bring more people to Oklahoma City.
For 2023- Callahan says the key is to engage with commercial cattle producers across Oklahoma and surrounding states and bring them to the OKC Fairgrounds to experience Congress. "we're going to try to gear more things that will be of interest to the commercial cattlemen- I think you'll see us with a Commercial Bred Heifer Sale" in 2023- as well as educational programs that will appeal to beef producers as well.
After we spoke with Callahan- we have confirmation that two of the largest beef breeds in terms of numbers that have showed in the first two years at Congress have already affirmed that Cattlemen's Congress will be a preferred venue for them in 2023. The American Angus Association at their February board meeting confirmed that Cattlemen's Congress will be a Super ROV Show for them in 2023- and the American Hereford Association has got their dates set for 2023 at the Congress for their National Shows for Bulls, Heifers, Pens and Juniors- January 4-7, 2023.
