Canola Harvest Ends for 2010- We Show You Pictures- Part Two
Mon, 28 Jun 2010 22:54:01 CDT
Winter Canola Harvest 2010 in Oklahoma has ended- and we were in Grant County to witness it on Monday, June 28, 2010. The President of the Great Plains Canola Association, Jeff Scott of Lamont-Pond Creek, had held back three passes in a field of DeKalb Roundup Ready Canola this past weekend- and cut it as he explained the harvest process to three members of the media- including yours truly.
This page shows our second set of pictures from this final day of harvest for the Winter Canola Crop in the state. The top picture is another profile shot of the Cat Combine owned by Jeff Scott. The second picture (just under the explanation here) shows some of the controls as we look out over Jeff's Shoulder to the right hand side of the header.
As we rolled down these final passes of canola that had been pushed, rained on and was really flat- it was amazing that the yield monitor was showing over 50 bushels an acre at this point of our time in the combine- as seen in the third picture in this series. The fourth picture on this page shows a bit of the wildlife we stirred up with these final passes- this Pheasant ran ahead of us for awhile before finally flying away.
The final picture in this series is unloading this "black gold" that Jeff Scott says is a lot more profitable than wheat- and even more fun to raise as well.
These pictures show some of the last canola to be harvested in Oklahoma for 2010- this in Grant County on the operation of Jeff Scott
