Devon Energy Becomes Platinum Sponsor for 2012 Oklahoma Youth Expo

The Oklahoma Youth Expo, known as the world’s largest junior livestock show, is proud to announce the addition of Devon Energy to its list of platinum level sponsors. Devon has generously agreed to sponsor the 2012 Breeding Scholarships. These scholarships will be used to fund scholastic opportunities to the winners of the organization’s prestigious breeding animal shows. “We’re extremely excited about the opportunity to partner with Devon,” commented Tyler Norvell, executive director of the Oklahoma Youth Expo. “An important part of the educational mandate set forth by our Board of Directors is to ensure our students have real-life educational opportunities as part of the Expo’s competitive process. Teaming up with Devon, one of the nation’s premier energy companies, is an extraordinary fit. We are honored that Devon has agreed to assist in the scholastic mission of the Oklahoma Youth Expo.

In addition to being the title sponsor of the “Breeding Animal Scholarships”, Devon also will help the Oklahoma Youth Expo host the ninth annual Legislative and Celebrity Livestock Show. Since its inception this show continues to be a hit with Expo participants. About 70 legislators each year attend the reception and show, including the Lieutenant Governor of Oklahoma as well as other distinguished guests. There continues to be no other event that provides legislators with an opportunity to step into the shoes of a student exhibitor and gain an appreciation for what they do.

“Today’s FFA and 4-H students are the entrepreneurs of tomorrow,” said Alan Marcum, Devon’s executive vice president of Administration. “Those who participate in livestock shows learn valuable life and business skills, as well as developing a strong work ethic through taking care of their animals. Devon is pleased to support these students as they work to achieve their goals.”

For 97 years, the Oklahoma Youth Expo has been the host to the Oklahoma Junior Agriculture Program’s state championship and in 2011 awarded over $1 million in awards and scholarships to 4-H and FFA members from all 77 of Oklahoma’s counties. The 2012 Oklahoma Youth Expo will be held March 9-19, 2012 at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds. Additional information may be obtained by contacting the Oklahoma Youth Expo Show at (405) 235-0404- or click here for the official OYE website.
