Reacting to WTO Dispute Panel Ruling- House Ag Committee Chair Lucas Calls COOL a Failed Experiment
Mon, 20 Oct 2014 11:36:36 CDT
The Chairman of the House Ag Committee, Oklahoma Congressman Frank Lucas, has made the following statement following the announcement this morning by the Dispute Panel of the World Trade Organization that the current Country of Origin Rule of the U.S. violates WTO rules and is harming the Canadian and Mexican livestock industries.:
"Today's announced decision by a WTO compliance panel underscores what many have known for some time. The United States mandatory country-of-origin labeling law for beef, pork, and chicken is a failed experiment. It is time for the Administration to put this case behind us by exercising leadership in order to achieve a lasting compromise that is satisfactory for our producers, processors, retailers, consumers and our trading partners."
