Tom Glazier Receives Oklahoma Wheat Commission's Staff of Life Award

Mon, 11 May 2015 15:13:21 CDT

Tom Glazier Receives Oklahoma Wheat Commission’s Staff of Life Award The Oklahoma Wheat Commission presented the Oklahoma Wheat Commission's "Staff of Life" award to Tom Glazier at the Kingfisher County Wheat Growers Banquet. Glazier is a former board member of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission and has hosted many foreign and domestic wheat buyers on his family farm in Loyal with his wife Shortie. Tom has also been instrumental in promoting the State 4-H and FFA Junior Wheat Show, in order to give students who might be interested in careers within the wheat industry an idea of all the different segments involved with wheat production. Tom has also served on the Oklahoma Wheat Growers Association Board, the National Association of Wheat Growers Board of Directors and US Wheat Associates Board of Directors.

The "Staff of Life" award is the highest award honor given by the Oklahoma Wheat Commission to an individual who meets the criteria of dedicating many hours of service to our wheat industry when it comes to helping market and promote.

"Tom Glazier has spent countless years of service in many different areas for Oklahoma Wheat producers. He has spent several hours helping the wheat producer or elevator owner/managers market grain while also being heavily involved in helping select the research funded by the Oklahoma Wheat Commission for the public wheat research being conducted at Oklahoma State University. Tom and his wife Shortie have also been extremely instrumental in helping with wheat promotions whether it be working the Oklahoma Wheat Commission Booth at trade shows and events, in meetings with USDA, to help maintain public wheat research in Oklahoma or other parts of the United States. They also have been heavily tied in working with 4-H extension and FFA in order to help promote agricultural careers for the next generation," said Mike Schulte, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission. "It is clear to see why the Oklahoma Wheat Commission Board felt Tom was deserving of this award. One can look back on his time and service to the wheat industry and certainly say he has made a difference," said Schulte.

The Oklahoma Wheat Commission funded by wheat producer support works to promote greater utilization of wheat in both domestic and international markets through research, market development and public education. Five wheat producers representing designated districts across the state serve as the Oklahoma Wheat Commission's board of directors. Current officers are, Don Schieber, chairman, Ponca City; Kenneth Failes vice chairman, Cherokee; Tom Stephens, secretary-treasurer, Guymon; Michael Peters, member, Okarche; and David Gammill, member, Chattanooga.
