One Oklahoma Elected Official Says Right to Farm is Right for Oklahoma
Thu, 20 Oct 2016 14:08:54 CDT
The following article was written as an op-ed by Rick Stubblefield, Adair County Elected Representative of the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission.
"The last time Drew Edmondson used "water quality" as a slogan to raise political donations he was campaigning to be governor of Oklahoma. He did raise a few hundred thousand dollars. But Oklahoma Democrats were not interested in Edmondson and showed him the door in the primaries.
"Edmondson's political career may be over, but one has to admit he is a quick study. His second bite at the "water quality" apple has netted a rumored $4 million in contributions for his latest scams, "Oklahoma Stewardship Council" and "Oklahomans For Food, Farm and Family".
"Contributions have supposedly been raised to attack State Question 777, the Right To Farm question that Oklahoma voters are supporting. Family farmers and families living in rural Oklahoma see 777 as protection against attack regulations and lawsuits from environmental extremists and activists wanting to regulate them out of existence.
"Edmondson, never one to miss an opportunity to promote the stream he values most the revenue stream has become the public face of 777 opposition.
"I became all-too familiar with Edmondson tactics during my 17 years of service on the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission. The real work to protect and promote water quality was much too tedious for Edmondson to fool with. He much preferred spending his time attacking farm families with photo-ops to help riase funds for his campaign to become governor.
"In 2014 the same out of state activists attacking State Question 777 poured money into attacking Missouri farm families and families living in rural areas. But Missouri voters passed the Right To Farm measure and it is time for Oklahoma voters to do the same. The same folks who believe a pig should have the same rights as your grandchildren have funded the ridiculous Attacks on 777. It could not be more obvious farm families and rural Oklahomans need this protection. Please join me in voting YES for Oklahoma State Question 777."
