Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 9/25/2017

   Compared to last week: Feeder steers over 800 lbs 1.00-5.00 higher; under 800 lbs 4.00-7.00 lower. Feeder heifers 1.00-4.00 lower.   Steer calves unevenly steady. Heifer calves 3.00-6.00 lower. Demand moderate to good for feeder cattle. Demand moderate for calves, light for anything weaned less than 60 days.   Quality mostly average. Expectations from some of another month of lower placements turned out to be a bad bet. Higher on feed and placement numbers left for a bearish COF, thus sharp declines on the days cattle futures. After a warm start to the first weekend of fall, lower temps and rain are expected this week. Feeder cattle supply included 58 percent Steers, 38 percent Heifers, and 4 percent Bulls. Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 70 percent.
