Drought Conditions Creep Higher Across Oklahoma According to Latest Drought Monitor Report

Fri, 15 Dec 2017 14:47:37 CST

Drought Conditions Creep Higher Across Oklahoma According to Latest Drought Monitor Report Drought conditions continue to creep higher in the state, as shown in the latest Drought Monitor report and addressed in State Climatologist Gary McManus' Mesonet Ticker this week. According to the Drought Monitor map, the entire state is in at least 'Abnormally Dry' conditions. Breaking down the numbers, though, 27 percent of the state is in 'Moderate Drought' conditions, 25 percent in 'Severe Drought' and now three percent in 'Extreme Drought.'

While 55 percent of the state is in drought conditions, McManus says the good news is that at least there are no cases of 'Exceptional Drought' conditions, so far.

McManus bears little optimism that our persistent drought conditions will be alleviated any time soon. He refers to a Canadian forecast model that lends little confidence as our next best hope - which predicts only a 30-40 percent chance of just an inch of liquid precipitation accumulating between now and December 29th.
