The All American Beef Battalion received yet another major donation from the state's beef community, Monday, December 18, 2017 at the Oklahoma City National Stockyards which hosted its 8th annual charity auction benefiting the organization and its mission to feed soldiers returning from combat a steak dinner. The commission companies of Oklahoma and others in the beef industry gathered during the stockyards' final sale of 2017, to bid - over and over - on a donated calf until all offers were collected. In total, this year's event added $59,000 to the seven-year sum of approximately $319,000 donated to the cause. Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays and Sam Knipp of American Farmers & Ranchers covered the event, and spoke with the AABB's founder, Bill Broadie, about the success of this year's auction. "It's been phenomenal. This venue and their generosity just blows me away. Everybody works so hard at it," Broadie said. "Robert York at National Livestock and all the commission companies - it's just a humbling deal for me to see the generosity of these people."
The donations generated over the years from this event has helped to feed thousands of soldiers and their family members. Currently, Broadie says his organization has served a total of 368,000 steaks and will celebrate the organization's 10th anniversary this spring on April 26th. Broadie expressed with great emotion his appreciation for the fundraising efforts of those that participated in today's sale that helps keep his cause moving forward.
A Vietnam veteran himself, Broadie said, "It's very humbling, because I walked in their shoes a few years ago. The world situation like it is - we're going to keep deploying troops and as long as we can buy the steaks, we're going to keep doing it."
If you were unable to attend today's sale, but would still like to contribute to the All American Beef Battalion and show your support for our troops with a steak dinner, you can donate online at their website using PayPal.
