Revenue Portion of Step Up Oklahoma Fails- Steve Thompson of AFR Talks With Ron Hays About What is NextMon, 12 Feb 2018 18:14:36 CST
House Leadership at the Oklahoma State Capitol have left the vote open on the revenue component of the Step Up Oklahoma plan- the final vote, no matter how late it is left open, is likely to be around the 63 to 35 mark- the proposal would have needed 76 votes to pass and proceed to the Senate.
As of 6:00 PM, Twitter reports are quoting House Floor Leader Jon Echols who is saying "As long as there's possibility of movement, it'll stay open." With that said, the leadership remains 14 votes short of passage.
After it became reasonably certain that the proponents of the massive tax increase would not be victorious on this Monday, Farm Director Ron Hays got on the phone and talked with American Farmers & Ranchers lobbyist Steve Thompson about the vote, what comes next in the effort to fill in the revenue hole for state government, what this vote could mean for the State Ag Sales Tax Exemption and will the Step Up Reform Proposals have any traction after this setback.
