American Pecan Councilman Scott Landgraf of Okla. Says It's an Exciting Time in the Pecan IndustryFri, 20 Apr 2018 16:02:43 CDT
The American Pecan Council, still in its infancy, is on the verge of branching out. Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays spoke with APC Board Member Scott Landgraf, a pecan grower from southern Oklahoma, about the Council’s activities during their recent board meeting. “Yes, it’s an exciting time for the pecan industry. It’s absolutely a landmark moment,” Landgraf said about the formation of the council, which is starting to pick up steam in its operations and promotion of pecans. That growing momentum very encouraging to Landgraf, who has been a part of previous attempts to get a Pecan Council off the ground.
“This is a second one for me,” he remarked. “There’s predecessors that have tried before as well, so this is truly a landmark moment for the industry.”
Producer contributions have started to roll into the Council’s coffers and to the surprise of Landgraf - much more than what was expected. He feels that is a very positive sign that the industry is supporting this movement and is excited to see things move forward. The council’s promotional efforts will be critical in helping the industry catch up to other tree nut competitors who have enjoyed their own national marketing programs for years.
“I think the future of the pecan industry is absolutely glowing,” Landgraf exclaimed.
