This Weeks Ag in the Classroom Features Beef Cattle--A MOOOOving Lesson! Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, many businesses and schools have closed down to practice social distancing. Many parents are at home with their kiddos, wondering, "What do we do now?" Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom has come up with some excellent daily activities you can do with your kids and family.

Today we are featuring Ag Tech Tuesday where we are focusing on beef. Did you know that beef not only tastes good, but is good for you? Beef is an important part of a healthy diet. Beef has about 50 separate nutrients are essential to good health. No other single food contains all of these nutrients. Beef is consumed 70 million times daily across America. Each year Americans consume 25 billion hamburgers. What is your favorite way to eat beef?

Oklahoma is Cattle Country. Everywhere you go in our state, you will see cattle grazing in fields at the side of the road. Cattle graze on Oklahoma grasslands in almost every one of our 77 counties.

The beef industry generates more income than any other agricultural enterprise in our state. In 2015, Oklahoma’s beef cattle inventory was 1.9 million. That same year, Oklahoma ranked number two in the nation in the production of beef cattle, number five in the production of cattle and calves, number 9 for cattle on feed and number three for our calf crop.

Beef is an important part of a healthy diet for humans. About 50 separate nutrients are essential to our good health. No single food contains all of these nutrients. For this reason, dietitians and health providers recommend consuming a variety of foods daily from several different food categories. One of the nutrients you need, Vitamin B12, can be found only in animal foods, such as beef. Beef also provides significant amounts of other important nutrients—protein, riboflavin, niacin, iron and zinc.

Kiddos can learn more about the many nutritional benefits of beef, how you can build your own beef burger, the anatomy of beef cattle, and many more fun activities about Beef! To see all the classroom activities on beef, you can click here:

And don't forget, Ag in the Classroom offers daily activities to do with your kiddos on their website, and their facebook page.
