Farm Aid 2020 Benefit Concert Will Go on the Road With a Free Livestream This Saturday

Wed, 23 Sep 2020 09:58:39 CDT

Farm Aid 2020 Benefit Concert Will Go on the Road With a Free Livestream This Saturday The Farm Aid 2020 festival looks a little bit different this year, as they are taking the festival on the road. Associate Farm Director, KC Sheperd spoke with Jennifer Fahy, Communications Director at Farm Aid, and she said this year's festival will be a virtual experience for the first time in history, with plenty of opportunities to see all the performances with more than 20 artists while 'socially distanced' in your own home!

Each year, Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, and Dave Matthews host a Farm Aid festival to bring together various artists, farmers, and fans for one mission: keeping family farmers on the land.

Farm Aid is an all-day festival that brings together incredible music, good food, and hands-on activities to get folks in touch with the roots of our food. Since 1985, Farm Aid has raised $60 million to help family farmers thrive worldwide while inspiring millions of people to take part in the Good Food Movement. Fahy said, "We visited artists in their homes, and they shared their stories about how they connect to farmers and agriculture, and they shared their music. We also put out the call to farmers to share their voices as well because, of course, the annual festival is always a celebration of farmer voices."

The Virtual lineup will feature several amazing artists who have ties to agriculture and family farms. The lineup includes performances from Willie Nelson, Jamey Johnson, Chris Stapleton, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Norah Jones, and more. Fahy said, "The connections these artists have to agriculture have led them to be the most loyal supporters of farmers." Even though the event is not in person this year, Fahy said this is an opportunity for everyone to get a 'free ticket' into the festival for the first time and she hopes that they will have a lot more viewers than they usually do and that a lot of new people will get to see the event and learn what farm aid is all about.

Fahy said the most challenging part about doing the festival virtually this year is the fact that they are hearing from folks that come from all over the country and hearing from the farmers, "People are just craving to be back with the people they know, and they love, and they worked with and that's hard. farm Aid comes at a tough time of year; farmers are harvesting and the people who come and take a day off the farm always appreciate doing so because they are the rock stars on that day."

Farm Aid also provides excellent resources to farmers that might be looking for help, "We're talking to farmers, we're hearing what their challenges are, we're talking about resources for farmers because we know that farmers have been hit so hard. Farmer stress is really high, and we just want everyone who eats (As Willie Says) to know that we can all be there to support farmers and tell them how much we appreciate their hard work and how valuable they are."

Since the event is virtual this year, and this is the only time viewers can see the show for free, Fahy reminds everyone, "if you want to donate to farm aid and support our mission, particularly because we are bringing you an incredible show with no fee, you can go to farmaid.org/donate which is the place you can go to make a gift, and as Willie says, a gift of any size is critical and very very welcome."
