Mon, 19 Oct 2020 08:58:33 CDT
Not only does Oklahoma have 2,107 flood control dams, but 90 percent of Oklahomans live within 20 miles of one. These dams protect people and property. Because of them, farmland, roads, bridges, and potentially homes and businesses are often protected from devastation that could have occurred. To highlight this, the Oklahoma Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has released an introduction to the Oklahoma Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Program video series.
This video features Oklahoma Conservation Commission's General Counsel, Janet Stewart, as she explains the flood history in Oklahoma which sparked the need for the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Program. Service Centers that are open for appointments will pre-screen visitors based on health concerns or recent travel and visitors must adhere to social distancing guidelines. Visitors may also be required to wear a face covering during their appointment.
Field work will continue with appropriate social distancing. Our program delivery staff will be in the office, and they will be working with our producers in office, by phone, and using online tools. More information can be found at farmers.gov/coronavirus.
