Introducing Lexie Malaske of the Harrah FFA Chapter, Your 2021 Central Area Star in Agribusiness

During the month of April, the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and Oklahoma Farm Report is spotlighting the twenty Area Stars of Oklahoma FFA that are among the highest achievers in the organization.

The stars come from the five areas in four categories- Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agriscience, Star in Agribusiness and Star in Production Agriculture.

This week, we wrap up our spotlight of the five area stars in Agribusiness for 2021.

One Star Finalist featured in the coming days from each of the categories, will be named the State Star Award Winner during the 95th Oklahoma State FFA Convention coming up April 27, and 28th in Oklahoma City.

This week, our coverage of the 2021 Oklahoma FFA Star Award Finalists continues with Agribusiness competitor Lexie Malaske of the Harrah FFA chapter representing the Central Area.

Malaske's project focuses on registered Pembroke Welsh Corgi dogs.

I have been doing this since I was young, she said.

Malaske's mother fell in love with the breed and passed the business to her when Malaske entered the 7th grade.

The Corgi breed can be used as a working herding animal or for just a pet, she said.

They actually are good for sheep and goats, as well as cattle, Malaske said.

Managing the birthing and genetic side of the registered dog breeding business has been a great learning experience for Malaske.

She tests for diseases in specific Corgi bloodlines and has done her homework.

Malaske has been heavily involved in FFA since 8th grade and is now chapter president, showing livestock and competing in speech contests.

She encourages younger people to become involved in FFA and learn the basics of agriculture and food production.

Malaske received the full ride two-year OSU-OKC scholarship through the Oklahoma Youth Expo and plans to major in marketing at OSU-OKC.
