Medical Marijuana Production in Rural Oklahoma Will Be the Focus in Several Senate Interim Studies Later This Year

Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat on Friday announced the approval of all requests for interim studies submitted by Oklahoma Senate members. Senators submitted 72 interim study requests; one request was withdrawn.
Pro Tem Treat, R-Oklahoma City, assigned interim study requests to Senate committees with jurisdiction over the subject matter of the request. Treat said committee chairs will determine when and if the interim studies assigned to their committee will be held.
There are several interim study requests that involve Oklahoma agriculture and rural areas of the state. The number one topic related to rural parts of the state have to do with the produciton and processing of medical marijuana.
That includes the following requests:
Medical Marijuana farming and its impact on municipal and rural water systems
Requestor: McCortney
Committee: Health and Human Services
Drift of pesticide and herbicide between food and fiber crops and medical marijuana
Requestor: Murdock
Committee: Agriculture and Wildlife
Medical marijuana tax funds
Requestor: Murdock
Committee: Appropriations
Process validation and medical marijuana testing requirements
Requestor: Pederson
Committee: Health and Human Services
Oklahoma cannabis industry
Requestor: Jett
Committee: Business, Commerce and Tourism
In addition, Senator Pederson has requested an interim study on Finding a pathway for equitable farm tax exemptions which has been assigned to the Finance Committe, and Seantor Jech has requested a n study on Current impact and solutions concerning noxious weeds in Oklahoma which has been assigned to the Ag Committee.

"There were a wide variety of subject matters requested for in-depth study from members of the Senate. I know these hearings will explore important topics and will be useful and productive for the Senate and its members," Treat said.
Meeting notices will be sent by Senate committees when interim studies are scheduled for hearings. Meeting notices also will be published on the Senate's website (www.oksenate.gov). Interim study hearings will be livestreamed on the Senate website.
