OSU Professors Recognized by National Agricultural Organization

Wed, 28 Jul 2021 10:57:30 CDT

OSU Professors Recognized by National Agricultural Organization The American Association for Agricultural Education recently recognized three professors from Oklahoma State University's Department of Agricultural Education, Communications and Leadership for their outstanding contributions to higher education.

Jon Ramsey was recognized with the Distinguished Agricultural Teacher Educator Award; Craig Edwards received the Distinguished International Agricultural Educator Award; and Dwayne Cartmell was recognized as an AAAE Fellow.

Ramsey spent 14 years in the public school system where he taught agricultural education before joining the faculty at OSU in 2002. He earned his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in agricultural education from OSU.

"Dr. Ramsey is a teacher of teachers. He has devoted his career to helping future and current school-based agricultural education teachers become more effective," said Rob Terry, head of OSU's Department of Agricultural Education, Communications and Leadership. "For the past 19 years, he has advised and taught ag education students and has traveled across the state supervising student teachers in the field."

Edwards' teaching career spans 39 years, with the last 19 of those at OSU. He has served as a key member of nearly every internationally focused program, committee or interest group associated with AAAE. He holds a bachelor's degree in agriculture and master's degree in vocational education from Sam Houston State University and a doctorate in agricultural education from Texas A&M University.

"Dr. Edwards is well known for his dedication to international education in and about agriculture. He has led impactful, grant funded projects, mentored international students, and has taught hundreds of OSU students the global connectedness of agriculture and the role education plays in addressing issues related to hunger, sustainability and peace," Terry said.

Cartmell has been in the education field for 24 years. He holds two bachelor's degrees and a master's degree in agricultural education from OSU and a doctorate in career and technical education from the University of Missouri. He worked in the agricultural industry before starting his teaching career in 1997.

"To be named an AAAE Fellow is the most prestigious honor given by the American Association for Agricultural Education. Members of this academy have a strong record of accomplishment, a high level of expertise and are the leaders of our profession," Terry said. "Those characteristics certainly describe Dr. Cartmell."

The mission of AAAE is to foster excellence in the discovery and exchange of evidence-based solutions for social science challenges in agriculture and related sciences.
