Foundation for Agriculture to Announce New Book of the Year at Annual Convention
Wed, 08 Dec 2021 11:41:00 CST
The American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture will announce its 15th Book of the Year on Sunday, Jan. 9, at the American Farm Bureau Annual Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. The winning book will be revealed at the annual Flapjack Fundraiser breakfast, where attendees will receive a free copy of the book provided by Farm Bureau Bank.
The Book of the Year award springs from the Foundation's effort to identify "accurate ag books," a collection of more than 400 books for children, teenagers and adults that accurately cover agricultural topics. In addition to their accuracy, Book of the Year selections are educational, reflect farmers' and ranchers' love for the land and what they do, create positive public perceptions about agriculture, inspire readers to learn more and touch their readers' lives as well as tell the farmer's story.
Previous Book of the Year selections are "Tales of the Dairy Godmother: Chuck's Ice Cream Wish by Viola Butler," "Full of Beans" by Peggy Thomas, "Right This Very Minute" by Lisl Detlefsen, "John Deere, That's Who!" by Tracy Nelson Maurer, "Sleep Tight Farm" by Eugenie Doyle, "First Peas to the Table" by Susan Grigsby, and "The Apple Orchard Riddle" by Margaret McNamara. The full list of the Book of the Year winners is here.
Daniel Meloy, executive director of the Foundation, said the 15th Book of the Year will continue the high standards of these previous selections.
"The Book of the Year selections are as diverse as American agriculture, but they all tell farmers' and ranchers' stories in a way that is educational and engaging. The next Book of the Year, which has been selected but will not be announced until the Annual Convention, continues that tradition," Meloy said.
Copies of the 2022 Book of the Year, related educator guides and a new Ag Mag will be available at the Farm Bureau Bank trade show booth. In addition, Ward Jenkins, illustrator of "Tales of the Dairy Godmother: Chuck's Ice Cream Wish," the 2021 Book of the Year, will be signing his book at the Foundation's booth on Jan. 9 from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. and from 2:00-3:30 p.m. Make sure you bring your copy of "Chuck's Ice Cream Wish" to the trade show.
The Flapjack Fundraiser is an incredibly popular Annual Convention event. Tickets, which can be purchased through the Annual Convention registration system, are $100 per individual or $1,100 for a table for 10.
