Limousin Breed is Set to Help Kick Off 2022 Cattlemen's Congress

Limousin Breed is Set to Help Kick Off 2022 Cattlemen's Congress It is an exciting time of year as the first show of the 2022 season is set to kick off in a few days! Purebred cattle breeders from all corners of the U.S. are packing their bags, hooking up the trailer and heading to the second annual Cattlemen's Congress, Jan. 1 - 16 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Today, Ron Hays, senior broadcaster for the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network, spoke with Mark Anderson, executive director for the North American Limousin Foundation, about the Limousin cattle headed to Cattlemen's Congress.

"We are excited to head down there," Anderson said. "We have more than 400 cattle entered in the junior open shows, our pen bull show will be on Tuesday with the junior heifer show and Wednesday will be our open (Medal of Excellence) show."

The National Limousin Sale is set to begin at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2021, at the Embassy Suites Ballroom in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

"They have an exceptional set of consignments (for the National Limousin Sale)," Anderson said.

The sale is set to offer 39 unique Limousin and Lim-Flex lots. It is made up of one herd sire, two bred females, three open heifers, two picks, two pregnancies, four designer flushes, 21 embryo lots and four semen packages.

For those who cannot attend in person, the action will be showcased live via Liveauctions.tv. To see the sale catalog, click here or see the link at the bottom of this story.

"We have had exceptional growth and excitement around the Lim-Flex hybrid," Anderson said. "(They are) basically a Limousin-Angus or Red Angus cross."

Lim-Flex cattle must have a genetic makeup of at least 25% of both Limousin and Angus cattle, according to Anderson. The two breeds cross well, with Limousin leading the way in yield grade and ribeye size and the marbling aspects of Agnus cattle, he added.
