Senator Roger Thompson Wins Grand Champion Showman at Legislative Showmanship Contest
Tue, 15 Mar 2022 20:51:19 CDT
Today was an exceptional day at the Oklahoma Youth Expo- it's a day where some of the young people get the opportunity to interact with state lawmakers from their home area during the annual Legislative Show at the OYE.
Over 110 lawmakers were at the State Fairgrounds on Wednesday evening- and most of them competed in a friendly way by showing a lamb, pig, goat, or calf after receiving instruction from the 4-H or FFA owner of the animal.
Several judges were on hand to decide who should be declared the master showman of this year's event, as judged picked several species winners and one overall 2022 Showmanship winner. This year, the Title went to Senator Roger Thompson, who represents Senate District 8, which comprises Okmulgee and McIntosh counties and portions of Okfuskee and Muskogee counties.
Other winners on the evening were Representative Ryan Martinez of District 39 and Senator Chuck Hall; He represents Pawnee, Noble, Logan, and Kingfisher counties. (all pictured here).
The Emcee for the evening was Ag Secretary Blayne Arthur, with the help of Jan Lee Rowlett, Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture. The legislative showmanship event is always a popular event with legislators and the Ag Kids. It is a great way to allow the legislators and the young people showing at the Youth Expo to interact. It's also a great reminder to rural and urban members of the State Legislature how vital this educational event is- and why it is an excellent investment for both the public and the private dollars dedicated to the show annually.
