With springtime in the air, it is prime time for Oklahomans to get out explore all the unique things the state has to offer. Farm Director, KC Sheperd visited with Emily Shuping, Made in Oklahoma Coalition Coordinator, about different events coming in up in the state.
"One of the fun things we have got coming up on May 18th is Ag on Lincoln," Shuping said. "This event got started last year because we couldn't have ag day at the capitol because of Covid, so it is basically just a big parking lot party at the Department of Ag where we will have all sorts of fun Made in Oklahoma vendors out there."
From 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event is free to anyone who would like to attend and check out different Made in Oklahoma vendors and enjoy some free food.
"We also have the Oklahoma Craft Brewers Fest coming up on June 18th," Shuping said. "That will be from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark."
For anybody who loves craft beer, Shuping said it is a great opportunity to taste breweries from all across the state. The event will also have Made in Oklahoma food items so individuals can enjoy foods like hotdogs or pretzels while drinking their craft beer, Shuping said.
"We have got our Made in Oklahoma restaurant this month which is Mad Eats in Owasso," Shuping said. "So, if you are making a trip to that side of the state, this is an awesome place to eat."
Shuping said "MAD" stands for Modern American Diner.
"We have some really cool opportunities that have launched with the Oklahoma Agrotourism Program, "Shuping said. "So, if you are a fan of Oklahoma wine, their new wine trail app is available for download now, and there is a database of over 500 local wines, and it includes every single Oklahoma winery."
Shuping said the app helps personalize your taste preference with up to 91% accuracy.
"We have also got some "you-pick" tulip and strawberry farms that are going on right now," Shuping said. "There is just stuff all over the state for people to take advantage of right now whether you are looking for something food related or looking for a fun activity for your family."
Another valuable resource in Oklahoma, Shuping said, is Oklahoma Agriculture in the Classroom.
"The Ag in the classroom website is amazing," Shuping said. "There are so many resources on there for download."
They also have a fun Route 66 Out West Trip coming, Shuping said, for individuals to take part in on June 7th through the 9th.
"Whether you are at home and just looking for some fun activities for your kiddos or are a teacher and want to go on this trip, Ag in the Classroom has amazing resources for students, teachers, families, you name it."
With April being Made in Oklahoma month, Shuping encourages individuals to go eat at MAD Eats in Owasso and other Made in Oklahoma restaurants to support venues that buy local products.
"If you onto the made in Oklahoma website, miacoalition.com, we have 800 restaurants that are all throughout the state that utilize tons of local products, the food is delicious, and it is always a great way to go and support those local companies and restaurants," Shuping said. "Whether you are in Oklahoma City or the Woodward area, there is a restaurant in every town. I really encourage folks to get on the website and look for a place near them."
