Good to Excellent Corn Conditions Rise in Oklahoma while Cotton and Soybeans Decrease in Percentage Points Since Last Week

Good to Excellent Corn Conditions Rise in Oklahoma while Cotton and Soybeans Decrease in Percentage Points Since Last Week According to the USDA's weekly crop progress report, U.S. corn conditions held steady and soybean conditions fell just 1 percentage point last week thanks to timely rains across much of the Corn Belt. However, a return of hotter, drier weather across the western, central, and northern U.S. later this week is likely to stress developing crops.


Nationwide Corn:

Corn silking for the U.S. has reached 15 percent, down 9 points from last year and down 10 points from the average.

Corn conditions for the 18 states reported is rated 64 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor.


Nationwide Soybeans:

Soybeans blooming reached 32 percent, down 12 points from the previous year and down 6 percentage points from the average. Soybeans setting pods reached 6 percent, down 3 points from last year and the average.

Soybean conditions rated 62 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 9 percent poor to very poor.


Nationwide Cotton:

Nationwide cotton squaring reached 57 percent, up 4 points from last year and down 1 percentage point from the average. Cotton setting bolls reached 22 percent, up 7 percent from last year and up 4 points from the average.

Cotton conditions rated 39 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 27 percent poor to very poor.

Oklahoma:

Corn silk in Oklahoma reached 38 percent, up 7 points from the previous year and up 1 point from normal. Corn crop conditions are rated 71 percent good to excellent, 21 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans emerged reached 76 percent, up 10 points from the previous year and up 1 point from normal. Soybeans blooming reached 5 percent, up 3 points from the previous year but down 2 points from normal. Soybean conditions rated 65 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 3 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton squaring reached 39 percent, down 3 points from the previous year and down 1 point from normal. Cotton condition was rated 35 percent good to excellent, 52 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor.

Canola harvested reached 95 percent, up 8 points from the previous year and up 3 points from normal.

Rye harvested reached 95 percent, up 17 points from the previous year and up 3 points from normal.

Oats harvested reached 70 percent, up 13 points from the previous year and up 6 points from normal. Oat conditions were rated 29 percent good to excellent, 53 percent fair and 18 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum planted reached 99 percent, up 3 points from the previous year and normal. Sorghum headed reached 10 percent, up 2 points from the previous year but down 4 points from normal. Sorghum conditions rated 44 percent good to excellent, 51 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor.

Hay:
The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 82 percent, up 4 points from the previous year and up 2 points from normal. The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 7 percent. The first cutting of other hay reached 95 percent, up 2 points from the previous year and up 5 points from normal. The second cutting of other hay reached 25 percent, up 14 points from the previous year and up 5 points from normal.

Pasture and Livestock:
Livestock condition was rated 56 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor. Pasture and range condition was rated 37 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 32 percent poor to very poor.

Kansas:

Corn silking reached 34 percent, even with last year and down 4 percentage points from the average. Corn conditions for Kansas rated 56 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans blooming reached 16 percent, down 20 percentage points from last year and 16 percentage points from the average. Soybean conditions were rated 62 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton squaring reached 66 percent, up 7 points from the previous year and up 21 points from the average. Cotton conditions were rated 49 percent good to excellent, 46 percent fair and 5 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum headed reached 8 percent, down 3 points from the last year and 2 points from the average. Sorghum conditions rated 50 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor.

Range and Pasture:
Range and pasture conditions were rated 41 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 32 percent poor to very poor.

Texas:

Winter wheat harvested is at 97 percent, up 4 points from last year and 3 points from the average.

Corn silking is at 73 percent, down 6 percentage points from last year and even with the average. Corn condition was rated 42 percent poor to very poor, 31 percent fair and 36 percent good to excellent.

Cotton squaring is at 46 percent, up 2 points from last year and down 4 percentage points from the average. Cotton setting boils is at 20 percent, up 5 points from the previous year and up 4 points from the average. Cotton conditions were rated 41 percent poor to very poor, 38 percent fair and 21 percent good to excellent.

Soybeans blooming was at 66 percent, down 3 percentage points from the previous year and up 3 points from the average. Soybean condition was rated 24 percent poor to very poor, 33 percent fair and 43 percent good to excellent.

Sorghum headed reached 69 percent, down 9 points from the previous year and even with the average. Sorghum conditions rated 47 percent poor to very poor, 35 percent fair and 18 percent good to excellent.

Peanuts pegging reached 12 percent, down 3 points from last year and down 6 points from the average. Peanut conditions rated 67 percent poor to very poor, 38 percent fair and 21 percent good to excellent.

Range and Pasture Conditions:
Range and pasture conditions rated 73 percent poor to very poor, 15 percent fair and 2 percent good to excellent.
