The Oklahoma Pork Council honored Robert Peffley, Nancy Rhoads and Shellie Rogers with the organization’s Excellence Award during the 63rd annual Oklahoma Pork Congress at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City.
The Excellence Award was created to recognize individuals in all areas of pork production for their exceptional commitment to doing their best every day. Excellence Award nominees come from any sector of pork production.
Peffley, a Seminole resident, is a pod business manager for Tyson Foods’ The Pork Group and has dedicated his career to the pork industry. He was nominated by Tina Falcon, contract grower for Tyson Foods.
“Rob is always kind and helpful,” Falcon said. “When we had a devastating fire at our farm, Rob was there the whole time.”
Falcon said Peffley stayed late and came early the next day to help in any way possible. He goes the extra mile, he takes care of his pigs and he takes care of his people, she said.
Rhoads is the on-boarding training manager for The Maschhoffs in Hinton. She was nominated by Thomas Craig, director of production for The Maschhoffs.
“Nancy does a great job of advocating for our industry,” Craig said. “She is very proud to be a pig farmer feeding America and the world. Nancy will never pass up the opportunity to brag about our industry and how noble it is to be a farmer.”
Shellie Rogers is the boar stud manager for Smithfield Foods in Laverne. She was nominated by Cathy Vaughan, safety coordinator for Smithfield Foods.
“Shellie is a huge asset to the production team in Oklahoma,” Vaughan said. “She is a mentor to new boar stud managers and the go-to person for questions by other managers.”
Vaughan said Rogers takes employee safety very seriously, and just like her biosecurity program, has created a strong employee safety culture.
Kylee Deniz, executive director of the Oklahoma Pork Council, said this was a competitive group of nominees.
“As an organization, we are always thrilled to recognize the hard work and dedication to our industry,” Deniz said. “We look forward to seeing the impact these individuals will make in their companies and their communities in the years to come.”
