Wheat Production Estimates for Oklahoma Fall Six Percent from August to September

Wheat Production Estimates for Oklahoma Fall Six Percent from August to September For the United States, winter wheat production for 2022 totaled 1.10 billion bushels, down 14 percent from the 2021 total of 1.28 billion bushels. The United States yield, at 47.0 bushels per acre, was down 3.2 bushels from 2021. Area harvested for grain was estimated at 23.5 million acres, down 8 percent from the previous year. Record low planted acres were estimated in Utah in 2022. Record low harvested acres were estimated in California and Utah in 2022. Record high yields were estimated in Illinois, New Jersey, North Dakota, and Tennessee for 2022.


OKLAHOMA WINTER WHEAT:

In Oklahoma, winter wheat production for 2022 is estimated to total 68.6 million bushels, down 40 percent from the 2021 total of 115 million bushels. Oklahoma is estimated to yield 28 bushels per acre, down 11 bushels per acre from last year’s total yield of 39 bushels per acre. Area harvested for grain was estimated at 2.45 million acres, down 16 percent from the previous year at 2.95 million acres. In 2022, Oklahoma planted 4.3 million acres of wheat, down from last year’s planted acres of 4.4 million acres.

From August to September, the wheat production estimate decreased by 6 percent for Oklahoma.


KANSAS WINTER WHEAT:

In Kansas, winter wheat production for 2022 is estimated to total 244.2 million bushels, down about 33 percent from the 2021 total of 364 million bushels. Kansas is estimated to yield 37 bushels per acre, down 15 bushels from last year’s total of 52 bushels per acre. Area harvested for grain was estimated at 6.6 million acres, down 5.7 percent from the previous year at 7 million acres. In 2022, Kansas planted 7.3 million acres, the same as planted acreage as 2021.

From August to September, the wheat production estimate decreased by 6 percent for Kansas.


TEXAS WINTER WHEAT:

In Texas, winter wheat production for 2022 is estimated to total 39 million bushels, down 47 percent from the 2021 total of 74 million bushels. Texas is estimated to yield 30 bushels per acre, down 7 bushels from last year’s total of 37 bushels per acre. Area harvested for grain was estimated at 1.3 million acres, down 35 percent from the previous year at 2 million acres. In 2022, Texas planted 5.3 million acres, down 3.6 percent from last year’s planted acres of 5.5 million acres.


From August to September, the wheat production estimate increased by 7 percent for Texas.
