Oklahoma Winter Wheat Plantings Behind Normal and Still No Improvement in Range and Pasture Ratings

Oklahoma Winter Wheat Plantings Behind Normal and Still No Improvement in Range and Pasture Ratings Corn and soybean harvest continued ahead of the average pace last week, USDA NASS reported in its weekly Crop Progress report on Monday. Mostly favorable harvest weather expected this week should extend that trend.


Nationwide Winter Wheat:

Winter wheat planted in the U.S reached 69 percent, even with the previous year and one percentage point ahead of the average. Winter wheat emerged reached 38 percent, down 4 percentage points from the previous year and down 6 points from the average.


Nationwide Cotton:
Cotton bolls opening for the U.S reached 89 percent, up 4 percentage points from the previous year and up 2 points from the average. Cotton harvested reached 37 percent, up 10 percentage points from the previous year and up 5 points from the average.

Cotton conditions for the 15 states reported rated 31 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair and 46 percent poor to very poor.


Nationwide Corn:
Corn mature for the U.S reached 94 percent, down 3 percentage points from the previous year and up 2 points from the average. Corn harvested reached 45 percent, up 5 percentage points from the previous year and up 5 points from the average.
Corn conditions for the 18 states reported rated 53 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 21 percent poor to very poor.


Nationwide Range and Pasture:
Range and pasture conditions for the U.S. rated 23 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 48 percent poor to very poor.

Oklahoma:


Winter wheat
planted reached 53 percent, down 3 points from the previous year and down 13 points from normal. Winter wheat emerged reached 30 percent, down 5 points from the previous year and down 16 points from normal.

Cotton bolls opening reached 93 percent, up 4 points from the previous year and up 3 points from normal. Cotton harvested reached 7 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 7 points from normal. Cotton conditions rated 4 percent good to excellent, 46 percent fair and 50 percent poor to very poor. (Since last week, good to excellent ratings have dropped one point and poor to very poor have increased by 2 points)

Corn harvested reached 72 percent, up 4 points from the previous year and up 6 points from normal. Corn conditions rated 24 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 45 percent poor to very poor. (Conditions unchanged from last week)

Sorghum mature reached 90 percent, down 2 points from the previous year but up 5 points from normal. Sorghum harvested reached 40 percent, down 6 points from the previous year and down 4 points from normal. Sorghum conditions rated 7 percent good to excellent, 28 percent fair and 65 percent poor to very poor. (Since last week, good to excellent conditions have dropped 3 points and poor to very poor have increased by 4 points)

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 72 percent, up 2 points from the previous year and up 6 points from normal. Soybeans harvested reached 30 percent, up 8 points from the previous year and up 8 points from normal. Soybean conditions rated 18 percent good to excellent, 43 percent fair and 39 percent poor to very poor. (Since last week, good to excellent ratings have decreased by 4 points and poor to very poor have increased by 7 points)

Peanuts mature reached 85 percent, up 16 points from the previous year and up 15 points from normal. Peanuts harvested reached 15 percent, down 2 points from the previous year and down 11 points from normal. Peanut conditions rated 84 percent good to excellent, and 16 percent fair. (Since last week, good to excellent conditions have declined by 7 percentage points)

Hay:
The fourth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 95 percent, up 1 point from the previous year. The fifth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 32 percent, up 3 points from the previous year and up 13 points from normal. The third cutting of other hay reached 90 percent, up 31 points from the previous year and up 34 points.

Range, Pasture and Livestock:
Pasture and range conditions rated 2 percent good to excellent, 20 percent fair and 78 percent poor to very poor. (Unchanged from last week)
Livestock conditions rated 30 percent good to excellent, 47 percent fair and 23 percent poor to very poor.

Kansas:

Winter wheat planted was 64 percent, behind 73 percent last year, and near 66 percent for the five-year average. Emerged was 33 percent, behind 45 percent last year and 44 percent average.

Corn harvested was 73 percent, near 74 percent last year, but ahead of 64 percent average.

Soybeans dropping leaves was 90 percent, near 89 percent last year, and equal to average. Harvested was 45 percent, ahead of 39 percent last year and 34 percent average. Soybean conditions rated 21 percent good to excellent, 28 percent fair and 51 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum mature was 83 percent, near 87 percent last year and 84 percent average. Harvested was 39 percent, near 42 percent last year, but ahead of 28 percent average. Sorghum condition rated 17 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 53 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton bolls opening was 88 percent, near 89 percent last year, but ahead of 83 percent average. Harvested was 26 percent, well ahead of 3 percent last year and 4 percent average. Cotton conditions rated 17 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 52 percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range:
Pasture and range conditions rated 6 percent good to excellent, 18 percent fair and 76 percent poor to very poor. Since last week, good to excellent ratings have declined by 2 percentage points and poor to very poor conditions have increased by 2 percentage points.

Texas:

Winter wheat planted reached 70 percent, up 7 percentage points from the previous year and the average. Winter wheat emerged reached 37 percent, down 1 point from the previous year and the average.

Cotton bolls opening reached 85 percent, up 4 percent from the previous year and 3 points from the average. Cotton harvested reached 40 percent, up 6 percentage points from the previous year and up 7 from the average. Cotton conditions rated 10 percent good to excellent, 19 percent fair and 71 percent poor to very poor.

Corn harvested reached 88 percent, down 2 percentage points from the previous year and up 6 from the average. Corn conditions rated 17 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 52 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum harvested reached 98 percent, up 7 percentage points from the previous year and up 11 from the average. Sorghum conditions rated 17 percent good to excellent, 41 percent fair and 42 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans harvested reached 65 percent, down 12 percentage points from the previous year and down 9 points from the average. Soybean conditions rated 13 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair and 63 percent poor to very poor.

Peanuts mature reached 60 percent, up 5 percentage points from the previous year and up 10 from the average. Peanuts harvested reached 25 percent, up 2 points from the previous year and up 6 from the average. Peanut conditions rated 31 percent good to excellent, 58 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range:
Pasture and range conditions rated 13 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 58 percent poor to very poor. Since last week, good to excellent pasture and range ratings have decreased by 1 percentage point and poor to very poor has increased by 2 points.
