OSU Cow-Calf Boot Camp in Ada to Cover Cattle Health, Grazing, and Management

Oklahoma cattle producers have an opportunity to sharpen their skills at an upcoming hands-on educational event, as OSU Extension prepares to host a multi-day cow-calf boot camp in Ada. Extension educator Erin Hubbard said  said in a recent conversation with associate farm reporter Carli Davenport that the program is designed to cover a wide range of practical topics for producers at all levels.

Hubbard explained, “This is a three-day event, we’re going to be meeting in Ada, Oklahoma, at the Pontotoc County Technology Center,” adding that participation is limited, with “about 50 spots open”. She emphasized the events of the program, noting, “we basically cover anything from weed control and farm management, hay and soil sampling all the way up to cattle health and management, castration, vaccinations, calving and time management.”

The event will also feature a strong lineup of speakers and hands-on learning opportunities. Hubbard said, “We have most guest speakers from Oklahoma State University,” along with several county educators. In addition to classroom instruction, attendees will get out in the field, as she noted, “We do have a couple of field trips lined up, we’re going to be doing some little workshops out there, including working with cattle and looking at weed and brush control.”

For those planning to attend, Hubbard encouraged participants to come prepared for both indoor and outdoor activities. “Sunscreen, bug control, notebooks,” she suggested, while also noting that “we’ll have meals lined up and snacks and drinks available.” For anyone interested in attending, she added, “There are still spots left open, last I looked, about 15 spots still left,” and invited producers to reach out Via email or by scanning the link below.
