November Crop Production Estimates Oklahoma Cotton Production Down From October and 69 Percent Lower than 2021

COTTON: November Oklahoma Cotton Production Estimates Decline from October – Now Down 69 Percent from 2021.

All cotton production is forecast at 14.0 million 480-pound bales, up 2 percent from the previous forecast but down 20 percent from 2021. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 855 pounds per harvested acre, up 13 pounds from the previous forecast and up 36 pounds from 2021. Upland cotton production is forecast at 13.6 million 480-pound bales, up 2 percent from the previous forecast but down 21 percent from 2021. Pima cotton production is forecast at 470,000 bales, up less than 1 percent from the previous forecast and up 42 percent from 2021. All cotton area harvested is forecast at 7.88 million acres, unchanged from the previous forecast but down 23 percent from 2021.

Oklahoma upland cotton area harvested is forecast at 310,000 acres as of November 1, which is unchanged from the last two month’s estimates and 30 percent less area harvested than in 2021 at 440,000 acres. As for pounds per acre, the November 1 estimate of 325 pounds per acre is down from the October forecast of 341 pounds per acre and about 57 percent lower than 2021, which was 756 pounds per acre. Oklahoma is forecasted to produce 210,000 bales, down from last month’s estimate of 220,000 bales and down about 69 percent from 2021’s production of 693,000 bales.

In Texas, as of November 1, USDA predicts the cotton area harvested for 2022 to be 2.53 million acres, unchanged from the last two month’s estimates, and 55 percent less than last year’s area harvested at 5.56 million acres. Yield per acre is predicted to be 635 pounds per acre, which is down from last month’s estimate of 654 pounds per acre, and down from last year’s yield per acre, which was 666 pounds. For 2022, the USDA predicts Texas will produce 3.3 million bales, which is down from last month’s forecast of 3.4 million bales, but about 57 percent less than in 2021. (7.7 million bales).

In Kansas, the USDA predicts the cotton area harvested for 2022 to be 152,000 acres, 49 percent greater than in 2021 at 102,000 acres. Yield per acre is predicted to be 553 pounds per acre, which is up from last month’s estimate of 537 pounds per acre, but down from last year’s 880 pounds per acre. For 2022, the USDA predicts Kansas will produce 175,000 bales, which is down 6 percent from 2021’s 187,000 bales.

CORN: Oklahoma and Texas 2022 Production Estimates Lower from October

All corn production for grain is forecast at 13.9 billion bushels, up less than 1 percent from the previous forecast but down 8 percent from 2021. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 172.3 bushels per harvested acre, up 0.4 bushel from the previous forecast but down 4.4 bushels from last year. Area harvested for grain, forecast at 80.8 million acres, is unchanged from the previous forecast but down 5 percent from the previous year.

Oklahoma corn harvested for grain is forecast at 305,000 acres, which is unchanged from last month and 3.2 percent more than in 2021 at 295,000 acres. In 2021, Oklahoma averaged 150 bushels per acre. As of November 1, USDA estimates Oklahoma to yield 122 bushels per acre, down from the October forecast of 125 bushels per acre. Total corn production for Oklahoma is forecasted to be 37.2 million bushels, which is down from the October estimate of 38.1 million bushels and about 16 percent lower than the 2021 Oklahoma corn production of 44.2 million bushels.

Over in Texas, the USDA predicts corn harvested for grain to be at 1.78 million acres, unchanged from last month and 4 percent less than in 2021 at 1.8 million acres. As of November 1, Texas is forecasted to yield 94 bushels per acre- 6 bushels per acre less than the October forecast and about 27 percent lower than the 2021 yield of 128 bushels per acre. Corn production for Texas is estimated to be 167.3 million bushels, which is down from the October estimate of 178 bushels and about 29 percent less and in 2021 at 236.8 million bushels.

In Kansas, as of November 1, the USDA predicts 5.15 million acres of corn to be harvested for grain, which is unchanged from the last two months and is about 5 percent less than in 2021 at 5.4 million acres. As of November 1, Kansas is forecast to yield 115 bushels per acre, unchanged from the October estimate and down 17 percent from 2021 at 139 bushels per acre. Lastly, for 2022, Kansas is forecasted to produce 592.25 million bushels of corn, which is unchanged from the October estimate and 21 percent less than in 2021 at 750.6 million bushels.

SOYBEANS: Soybean Production in Texas Estimated Higher in 2022- Lower in Oklahoma and Kansas

Soybean production for beans is forecast at 4.35 billion bushels, up 1 percent from the previous forecast but down 3 percent from last year. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 50.2 bushels per harvested acre, up 0.4 bushel from the previous forecast but down 1.5 bushels from 2021. Area harvested for beans in the United States is forecast at 86.6 million acres, unchanged from the previous forecast but up less than 1 percent from 2021.

In Oklahoma, the soybean area harvested is forecast at 525,000 acres, down 1.8 percent from the 2021 acres harvested of 535,000. Yield per acre is forecasted at 17 bushels per acre, up from last month’s estimate of 16 bushels per acre, and down 30.4 percent from 2021, which was 23 bushels per acre. As of November 1, USDA estimates soybean production in Oklahoma will yield 8.9 million bushels, up from the October estimate of 8.4 million bushels and down about 27 percent from 2021’s production of 12.3 million bushels.

Over in Texas, the soybean area harvested is forecast at 140,000 acres, which is the same as the October estimate and up from 2021’s harvested acreage of 100,000 acres. As of November 1, yield per acre is estimated at 31 bushels per acre, down from the October estimate of 33 bushels per acre and down 22 percent from the 2021 yield of 38 bushels per acre. USDA estimated soybean production in Texas will yield 4.3 million bushels, up 14.2 percent from 2021’s yield of 3.8 million bushels.

In Kansas, the soybean area harvested is forecast at 5 million acres, unchanged from the October 1 estimate and up from 2021’s 4.8 million harvested acres. Yield per acre is forecasted at 28 bushels per acre as of November 1, which is unchanged from the October 1 estimate and down 30 percent from the 2021 yield of 40 bushels per acre. USDA estimates soybean production in Kansas will yield 40 million bushels, unchanged from last month’s estimate and down 27 percent from the 2021 soybean production of 192 million bushels.
