Bob Rodenberger Says Good Sales this Week with higher dollars for Premium Cattle

It was a busy week in the Livestock Market this week. Oklahoma National Stockyards started the week with 14,000 cattle. Bob Rodenberger at Stockman’s livestock Auction said with the Oklahoma Angus Association Sale offerings at Oklahoma national stockyards, they saw cattle sell higher, “We’ve seen what premium cattle do. I saw a set of fancy six-weight cattle out of a reputable Angus herd bring $2.10/pound. Pretty much all the five-weight cattle in the program were bringing $2.05-$2.10. Four-weight cattle bring in $2.30 to $2.40 per pound. So I mean, we’ve got an excellent market.”

Rodenberger said the market looks best for calves that are weaned that are looking to turn out on wheat. He says those calves are bringing $150/head more now than they were a month ago, “If you held onto your calves, it’s paid off. If you held onto them long term waiting for wheat and got wheat, it will pay off because you can put these cattle out and leave them out till May with a pretty good spread and make some money.”
Rodenberger says Apaches’ last sale of the year is Next Thursday, while Oklahoma National Stockyards has two remaining sales. For the rest of the year, he says we will probably see just a season average for this time of year but says it will be interesting to see what happens in the beef market in the next fourth months.
