Bob Rodenberger sees Possibility of Good Cattle Markets for Next Three Years

Listen to KC Sheperd talk with Bob Rodenberger as he gives the latest update on the cattle markets.

After a short break, livestock sales are back on. KC Sheperd, Farm Director, is back talking with Bob Rodenberger, a partner with Stockman Oklahoma Livestock Marketing, as he gives the latest on the cattle markets.

“After Tuesday, about everybody that normally is in that schedule had some sales,” Rodenberger said.

There were some good runs this week, Rodenberger said, and to his surprise, more cull cows came through.

“I thought we had sold every old, worn-out cow in Oklahoma, and I had 500 of them again yesterday,” Rodenberger said. “I don’t know where they are coming from. I am not talking about young cows- I am talking about worn-out cows that were open, super thin, and mismanaged.”

The quality in the calves and feeder cattle, Rodenberger said, was tremendous.

“Excellent market on everything,” Rodenberger said.

While expenses are higher, Rodenberger said, cattle prices are also higher, which is good.

“We have got a possibility for a good market probably for the next three years,” Rodenberger said.

Buyers are purchasing large amounts of cattle, Rodenberger said, in anticipation of fewer numbers in the future. Looking into 2023, Rodenberger said he has concerns with economics.

“We can’t price our product out of line, but right now, we have not met consumer resistance, yet,” Rodenberger said.
