US Chamber of Commerce CEO Suzanne Clark Reacts to President Biden's SOTU

U.S. Chamber of Commerce CEO and President Suzanne P. Clark made the following comments in reaction to President Biden’s State of the Union address:

Economy / Overregulation 1

“We need supply-side policy solutions to bring down inflation and lower prices – an agenda to get more people in the workforce, more domestic energy, more home construction. Price controls will take us the opposite direction, less supply which means higher prices and fewer choices.”

Economy / Overregulation 2

“Let’s not forget where the economic growth, job creation, manufacturing productivity, and new business starts, and innovation come from—the private sector! American businesses, large and small, entrepreneurs, and workers are driving our economy forward. Overregulation will stop this progress in its tracks.”

Trade

“Trade was conspicuously absent from President Biden’s State of the Union address. Expanding trade and investing with other countries supports jobs, creates opportunities, deepens strategic partnerships, and advances free enterprise. It’s time for this administration to get back to the table and pursue new market opening trade agreements that not only increase our standard of living but also our standing in the world.”

Immigration

“Securing our border and boosting legal immigration are big opportunities for bipartisan progress. We are a great nation and can do both. Getting this right will spur economic growth and reestablish order on our southern border.”

Permitting (Infrastructure / CHIPs / IRA)

“The U.S. Chamber was proud to support the historic bipartisan infrastructure legislation, but we can’t get shovels in the ground if we can’t get projects approved. The average transportation project takes almost seven years just to obtain federal approval. That is unacceptable. There is bipartisan agreement on permitting reform—now we need bipartisan action.”?
