Bob Rodenberger Says Markets are Based On Demand for Beef

KC Sheperd, Farm Director, is back talking with Bob Rodenberger, a partner with Stockman Oklahoma Livestock Marketing, as he gives the latest on the cattle markets.

“Started out the first of the week just kind of a lackluster market,” Rodenberger said. “I wouldn’t call it any cheaper, and a lot of it was quality driven. Not as many front-end cattle. A lot of cattle with a little bit of crossbred in them, but still a good market.”

Premium cattle still had the premium built in them, Rodenberger said, and the market for cattle being bought for grass is doing extremely well.

“Good demand for everything we have seen so far,” Rodenberger said.

Looking at numbers from a year ago, Rodenberger said the sale numbers are up. For those who are wanting to cull cows, Rodenberger said now is the time.

“Feeder market was fully steady, and good demand Thursday on feeder cattle,” Rodenberger said. “I noticed El Reno’s market was extremely well and what little I watched of it had some extremely high-quality cattle going through there and there was a tremendous demand for those cattle.”

Rodenberger said he sees the markets setting up to stay positive for the next 24 to 36 months.

“Our market is based off now of demand for beef,” Rodenberger said. “If the government doesn’t implement something that slows down the demand or gets crossways with the country that imports a lot of our beef, I see nothing to slow it right now.”
