Kerbs Shares Resources for Tornado-Affected Constituents

Rep. Dell Kerbs, R-Shawnee, urged Shawnee residents affected by Wednesday’s tornadoes and severe weather to access available local and state resources.

“The destruction suffered in Shawnee and the surrounding community on Wednesday was devastating,” Kerbs said. “Local and state resources are available for those affected by Wednesday’s severe weather, and I hope everybody finds the support they need.”

The American Red Cross of Oklahoma has set up a shelter for those who lost their home at the Citizen Potawatomi Reunion Hall, located at 1702 Gordon Cooper Drive in Shawnee.

Kerbs thanked OG&E technicians for their relentless work to restore electricity to affected customers, law enforcement and volunteers from neighboring towns who showed up to help, and representatives from numerous tribal nations who are aiding with clean-up efforts and debris removal.

“It’s encouraging to see our neighbors across Oklahoma already stepping up to assist, and I want to thank everybody who has already answered the need and will volunteer in the coming weeks,” Kerbs said. “I know Shawnee and other affected areas will come together as we begin rebuilding and look to the future.”

As Oklahomans begin to repair and rebuild, Kerbs warned his constituents to be cautious when dealing with unfamiliar contractors or insurance claims adjusters.

Oklahomans may reach out to the Office of the Attorney General for support at 1-833-681-1895 or ConsumerProtection@oag.ok.gov. Additionally, consumer complaints may be filed with the Office of the Attorney General with documentation found at oag.ok.gov/consumer-protection.

The Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) provides guidance for each step of the insurance claims process available at oid.ok.gov/consumers/insurance-basics. The OID Consumer Assistance Division handles all types of consumer inquiries and can be contacted at 405-521-2828. Additionally, the OID can provide assistance if a claim has not been handled appropriately.

Kerbs encouraged his constituents to reach out to him with any questions or concerns. He may be reached at (405) 557-7345 or dell.kerbs@okhouse.gov.
