Winter Wheat Ratings in Oklahoma Down to 6 Percent Good to Excellent

Nationwide, despite colder, wetter weather, U.S. farmers pushed ahead with row-crop planting last week, keeping planting progress for both crops ahead of the average pace, USDA NASS reported in its weekly Crop Progress Report on Monday.

Winter wheat for the U.S was rated 26 percent good to excellent, down 1 percent from 27 percent good to excellent the previous week and the lowest in over three decades. 18 percent of winter wheat was headed nationwide as of Sunday, up 8 percentage points from the previous week and 4 percentage points ahead of the five-year average of 14 percent.

OKLAHOMA:

Winter wheat jointing reached 84 percent, up 16 points from the previous year and up 1 point from normal. Winter wheat headed reached 33 percent, up 28 points from the previous year and up 9 points from normal. Winter wheat conditions rated 6 percent good to excellent (zero percent excellent), 31 percent fair and 63 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 13 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair, and 53 percent poor to very poor. 

Corn planted reached 28 percent, up 6 points from the previous year and up 2 points from normal. Corn emerged reached 5 percent. Sorghum planted reached 15 percent, up 15 points from the previous year and up 12 points from normal.

Sorghum planted reached 15 percent, up 15 points from the previous year and up 12 percent from the average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 14 percent good to excellent, 25 percent fair and 61 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 13 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair, and 58 percent poor to very poor.

Livestock conditions rated 37 percent good to excellent, 40 percent fair and 23 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 8 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair, and 23 percent poor to very poor. 

KANSAS:

Winter wheat jointed was 46 percent, near 47 percent last year, and behind 51 percent for the five-year average. Headed was 3 percent, near the 1 percent average. Winter wheat conditions rated 14 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair, and 62 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s ratings were 14 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair, and 60 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted was 24 percent, near 20 percent last year, and ahead of 19 percent average. Emerged was 3 percent, near 1 percent last year and 2 percent average.

Soybeans planted was 4 percent, near 3 percent last year and 1 percent average.

TEXAS:

Winter wheat headed reached 43 percent, down 10 percent from last year and down 9 percent from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 14 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair, and 55 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 16 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair, and 52 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted reached 68 percent, down 4 points from last year and up 3 points from the average. Corn emerged reached 58 percent, down 2 points from the previous year and up 7 points from the average.

Cotton planted reached 19 percent, up 1 point from the average and up 3 points from the average.

Range and pasture conditions rated 20 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair, and 56 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 15 percent good to excellent, 28 percent fair, and 57 percent poor to very poor.
