Needed Rain falls Across the state, Racking up good Totals With another System on the Way

What a blessing to see rain these past few days! State Climatologist Gary McManus says we have seen good rain totals across the state with much-needed improvement on Drought maps. Take a look at this transformation:

McManus says we are still seeing some deficits, “A lot of those short-term drought impacts will be alleviated. The biggest of which we should now see a pretty nice statewide green up once the sun comes back, along with a little bit of heat. And that will end our prolonged critical-to-extreme fire danger for a while.”

We won’t see these changes reflected on the drought monitor until NEXT Week when the map is updated with this week’s showers. McManus says even more good news is more could be on the way, “There will be another storm system sliding down this way from the NW that will provide another bout of rain from Friday into Saturday. This important reinforcing rainfall should help up those totals a bit more for added drought relief. It might come with a bit of severe weather tomorrow, but mostly confined to far south-central OK, so stay alert.”
