Winter Wheat Drops to 7 Percent Good to Excellent in Oklahoma This Week

Parts of Oklahoma received rainfall and experienced warmer temperatures last week. Rainfall totals in the state averaged 0.52 of an inch. The warmer temperatures caused small grains to progress quickly. Producers are continuing to cut small grains for hay, due to little grain development.

U.S. Crop Progress:

Winter wheat headed for the U.S. reached 38 percent, up 6 percentage points from the previous year and up 3 points from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 29 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 44 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 27 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 43 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted reached 49 percent, up 28 percent from the previous year and up 7 points from the average. Corn emerged reached 12 percent, up 7 percentage points from the previous year and up 1 point from the average.

Soybeans planted reached 35 percent, up 24 points from the previous year and up 14 points from the average. Soybeans emerged reached 9 percent, up 6 points from the previous year and up 5 points from the average.

Range and pasture conditions rated 33 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 37 percent poor to very poor.

OKLAHOMA:

Winter wheat jointing reached 98 percent, up 4 points from the previous year. Winter wheat headed reached 77 percent, up 20 points from the previous year and up 4 points from normal. Winter wheat conditions rated 7 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair, and 64 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 9 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair, and 61 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted reached 41 percent, up 4 points from the previous year but down 6 points from normal. Corn emerged reached 27 percent, 11 points from the previous year and up 6 points from normal.

Sorghum planted reached 20 percent, up 15 points from the previous year and up 10 points from normal.

Soybeans planted reached 8 percent, down 10 points from the previous year and down 9 points from normal.

Peanuts planted reached 5 percent, up 1 point from the previous year but down 3 points from normal.

Cotton planted reached 5 percent, up 1 point from the previous year but down 3 points from normal.

Livestock conditions rated 40 percent good to excellent, 44 percent fair, and 16 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 37 percent good to excellent, 45 percent fair, and 18 percent poor to very poor. 

Pasture and range conditions rated 19 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 54 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 16 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 58 percent poor to very poor. 

KANSAS:

Winter wheat jointed was 78 percent, near 81 percent last year, and 82 percent for the five-year average. Headed was 32 percent, ahead of 27 percent last year and 24 percent average. Winter wheat conditions rated 11 percent good to excellent, 21 percent fair and 38 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 13 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair and 64 percent poor to very poor. 

Corn planted was 47%, near 44% last year and 48% average. Emerged was 20%, near 16% last year, and equal to average.

Soybeans planted was 29%, ahead of 15% last year and 14% average. Emerged was 6%, ahead of 1% last year, and near 2% average.

Sorghum planted was 3%, near 2% both last year and average.

Cotton planted was 3%, behind 10% last year and 8% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 11 percent good to excellent, 25 percent fair and 64 percent poor to very poor.

TEXAS:

Winter wheat headed reached 77 percent, up 2 percentage points from the previous year and up 3 points from the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 20 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair, and 56 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 17 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair, and 57 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted reached 77 percent, down 3 points from the previous year and even with the five-year average. Corn emerged reached 43 percent, up 20 points from the previous year and up 8 points from the average.

Cotton planted reached 23 percent, up one point from the previous year and the average.  

Sorghum planted reached 73 percent up 4 percentage points from the previous year and even with the average.

Range and pasture conditions rated 26 percent good to excellent, 22 percent fair, and 52 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 24 percent good to excellent, 25 percent fair, and 51 percent poor to very poor.
