The Ecosystem Services Market Consortium (ESMC) released its 2023 Annual Report today. ESMC’s Eco-Harvest program compensates farmers and ranchers for reduced greenhouse gases, increased soil carbon, improved water quality, and other ecosystem services benefits.
ESMC and its research arm, ESMRC, are a leading nonprofit consortium achieving environmental stewardship via innovative market solutions to scale carbon and ecosystem markets for the agricultural supply chain. The validated and verified Eco-Harvest program provides the necessary transparency, credibility, and integrity for corporates, producers, and all stakeholders across the supply chain. In 2023, 24 Eco-Harvest projects included over 200 producers on more than 150,000 acres. These producers implemented practice changes including cover crops, reduced/no till, and increased nutrient management resulting in measured greenhouse gas emission reductions and removals.
In 2023, ESMC completed another comprehensive audit and verification cycle for Eco-Harvest which continues to generate verified soil carbon removals and greenhouse gas reduction impacts for Scope 3 agri-food and supply chain reporting. For ESMC-member reporting companies, Eco-Harvest offers a reliable program and platform to achieve environmental improvements and make valid claims towards achieving science-based commitments. Additionally, Eco-Harvest earned Ag Data Transparent certification, confirming that producer data is protected and used to benefit producers. Read about these achievements and our future direction in the 2023 Annual Report.
