The Okfuskee County Cattlemen’s Association (OCCA) would like to thank the community for attending our Saturday, June 8, 2024 meeting at the Okfuskee County Fairgrounds. Sixty-seven Cattlemen, family, and friends gathered together to enjoy delicious wagyu burgers donated by Leaning Oak Ranch, an excellent and informative presentation on Johnson Grass from our county OSU Extension Educator, Brice Callahan, and a contest of five homemade ice creams.
Comments from around the room were a testament to the high quality beef being raised in our community by our Cattlemen. The meal was sponsored by Leaning Oak Ranch and the ice cream by the Cattlemen themselves. “If you have all five types of ice cream, you can be a judge.” was the all inclusive attitude of Association President, Buck Rich. Though the actual title to the Ice Cream Contest is always self proclaimed by the Cattlemen who make the ice cream, the real winners were those who enjoyed the evening together. A special thank you to Ok Real Estate in Okemah and multiple families for sponsoring door prizes for this event.
The OCCA will begin fundraising for their Annual Banquet in September. The Annual Banquet is the only fundraising event of the year that allows the OCCA to host the Carcass Contest and give out youth scholarships in the Spring, as well as provide free meals and guest speakers throughout the year.
If you or your business would like to sponsor a door prize of any size, please contact Tom Goode at (940) 393-9815 for more information. We look forward to seeing you all at our Annual Banquet on September 28, 2024 at 6 p.m. at the Okfuskee County Fairgrounds.
