NFU President Rob Larew, along with Farmers Union Enterprises (FUE) representatives Darin Von Ruden, Wisconsin Farmers Union President; Walter Schweitzer, Montana Farmers Union President; Mark Watne, North Dakota Farmers Union President; Gary Wertish, Minnesota Farmers Union President; and Dave Velde, FUE CEO and NFU General Counsel, this week attended the World Farmers’ Organization (WFO) General Assembly in Rome. WFO represents farm organizations and ag co-ops from across the globe, and Farmers Union played an important role in the organization’s founding.
The General Assembly is WFO’s annual meeting to set the organization’s policy priorities. The entire FUE delegation participated actively in the policy process and ensured WFO’s policy platform reflects American family farmers’ priorities.
President Wertish, chairman of the WFO Livestock Working Group, updated delegates on its activities. Velde used his Farmers Union-honed procedural skills to effectively moderate the policy discussion.
